So you get on board and you are feeling a little peckish. The dining options for guests is overwhelming. You have your main dining, buffet style dining on Lido deck, you also have the option to dine in one of the speciality dining venues on board.
Now just have a look at what the crew get to eat!!!
Not as appetising as the food guests get I think you will agree!
When I was on board I opted for the beef stew which was the most appetising dish on the menu. I queued up and I was given my lunch. I sat down and started to eat, I looked again at my food and I noticed a foreign object in my stew....a thumb sized piece of carpet!!!!!!!!
I immediately went to the crew Food and Beverage Manager and showed him what I had found, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Obviously after that I went to see the Staff Captain (Who was a friend of mine) explained what happened and it was looked into and I had an apology from the crew F&B Manager.....funny that!!!
So when you visit your ports of call when you are on your cruise, look out for the stampede of crew behind you as they will be looking for a decent meal!!!
Disclaimer - Crew food on board may have changed a lot since I was on board and I apologise to the Chef's on board now if the food they make for the crew is up to standard. Haha.
I worked on the Carnival Fantasy from Port Canaveral in 1998 for 6 months as an art auctioneer. I ate in the Crew quarters with many staff members in lower positions than mine was considered. There are tiers if dining on a cruise ship. I found the food to be generally of good quality although at times it was obvious they were using leftovers from previous meals for things like beef stew. I never had a "bad" meal although some were basically acceptable and many were very good with lots of variety.
ReplyDeleteI saw crew food on Queen Victoria ---and IT WAS OK. Not to mention the beer at A Dollar A pint !!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to say it, but it's the same in the 5 star hotels around the world !!
