Have you seen Pirates?

I was watching a documentary on BBC 2 last night about Fred Olsen's Balmoral world cruise.  Now at the end of the programme it showed a clip of the next episode.  The crew had all the guests sitting on the floor outside their staterooms!

This was because the ship was very close to the coast of Somalia on the East coast of Africa. I am not sure that if it was a drill however if there were Somalian pirates in the waters at least the ship were prepared.

Now there have been reports in the news of pirates taking control of smaller vessels and even oil tankers however would they try to take over a cruise ship?  Mind you Balmoral is not a large ship and there are many oil tankers that are larger than Balmoral.

I have never sailed in the East African waters so never come across this.  I think cruise lines plan their routes a year in advance, possibly two years and if there was any threat of pirates then they would change the itinerary.

Have you ever been on a world cruise or even sailed off the coast of East Africa and had to do this drill?  I would be interested to find out.
