Well I have just been away for a weekend break in Malaga, Spain with my girlfriend. The trip was excellent and the weather was very kind to us.
On our second night we were recommended a restaurant where the rich and famous who live in Malaga dine out. It was located in the picturesque marina area of Benalmadena as you can see from the picture. The restaurant was beautiful and well known for its fish menu. Now I am not a great lover of fish however my girlfriend was, but there were a few dishes which would suit my tastes, however my Spanish is a little limited as you will find out.
I looked at the menu and decided on fillet steak for main but I struggled on the starter. I didn't want soup as this would be too filling so I decided to try a specialty cheese starter (which is a little strange to start a meal with cheese) but I thought a nice light souffle light starter would suffice.
However when my starter came out it was not the light souffle I thought I was getting, it was 6 slices of extra mature cheddar. That was it! No garnish no sauce no nothing, oh apart from a bag of bread sticks. Just think of how 'The Laughing Cow or Dairy lea' cheese triangles are in their box, mine was exactly like that but without the box and without the foil wrapping! I'm sure the waiter chuckled as he delivered the starter. I was slightly embarrassed and I had my leg pulled throughout dinner but it didn't spoil what was a very lovely night.
So the moral of this story is always ask someone who can understand you if you don't know exactly what you are ordering.
