From April 2014 P&O and Cunard are stopping smoking on balconies across their fleet.
A letter will be sent out to all past passengers who have sailed or are due to sail with these two cruise lines.
In the letter it states -
'Following feedback from our passengers and the results of recent customer research, smoking will no longer be permitted on cabin balconies. Smoking is currently not permitted in cabins or public areas but the policy will continue to permit smoking in designated areas of the open deck'
It also states 'This change has been for the safety and comfort of our passengers and means that all passengers will be able to enjoy full use of their private balconies without the effect of drifting smoke'
Now how will this affect sales? I have a few clients who choose P&O and Cunard because they did allow smoking on their balconies. Mind you I guess if you have paid for a balcony you don't really want the smell of smoke ruining your balcony experience.
You can still smoke in designated areas which are normally on the outside deck where the lifeboats hang.
Your comments are quite welcome!
