Carnival Corporation confirmed that Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises
ships will begin calling on Grand Turk on Monday, April 8. Ships have
been bypassing Grand Turk since mid-March after a gastroenteritis outbreak
struck locals and cruise ship passengers alike. Carnival brand ships account for
the vast majority of cruise calls to Grand Turk.
A 'task force' comprised of cruise line health experts and local public health
professionals performed extensive testing on all aspects of the port's
operations, including procedures, systems and equipment.
Apparently there was no link between Passengers and 'clenliness' of the island. There was an allergation that contaminated ground water near the port was to blaim however this has been strongly denied.
All ships will be deeply sanitized before they call at Grand Turk, as an ex crew member myself, this means washing down all surfaces with bleach to kill any bacteria. The crew do an excellent job with this to make yoiur cruise a memorable experience.
To combat this horrible illness wash you hands thoroughly and use the hand sanitizer distributed out on the ship.
Lets hope the norovirus is contained and everyone has a great time on this fantastic island.
