Silversea, the 6 star cruise line will stop passengers smoking in thier cabins. They already prohibit smoking on the balconies. The restriction will now only allow smoking in certain area's on their ships and in their Connoisseur's club, congnac and cigar bars.
This announcement is in line with an industry trending toward more restrictive at-sea smoking environments. In the past year, Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America and Princess have all stamped out in-cabin smoking. Only a handful of lines, including Carnival and Norwegian, still allow passengers to smoke on balconies.
This is a very good thing to announce. Look at the above picture This was the Star Princess where a fire, which was apparently started by a discarded cigarette over the balcony, ignighted towels on a neighbouring balcony and gutted a vast amount of cabins.
I nwas working on Celebrity Infinity when this happened. As soon as this was announced, our safety officer told all crew to be very strict with passengers who were smoking out of the designated areas.
